Jacob Manning, MSRT, RT(R)(T)ARRT

1.25 Credit

Category A

This course will be helpful in fulfilling structured education and CQR credits

Course Description

This presentation is a review of radiation therapy prescription and dose calculation concepts. It is intended for CQR review, as a directed study to fulfill requirements following a CQR test. The topics included in this presentation include the radiation therapy prescription, the treatment volumes, Dmax values, beam profiles, and a comparison of open field, 3D conformal, and IMRT techniques. Also included are example problems for the calculation of SSD.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the audience will be able to:

  • Identify required components of a radiation therapy treatment prescription
  • Differentiate between dose profiles of electron, photon, and proton beams
  • Solve basic treatment depth and source-to-skin distance problems
  • List Dmax depth for photon beam energies typically used in radiation therapy
  • Compare and contrast SSD vs. SAD treatment techniques
