Course Description

A firm understanding of patient care and ethics is vital for anyone in the medical field.  This lecture will provide a review of patient care to include ethics, pharmacology, patient care, and medical emergencies.

Course Objectives

  • Discuss ethical and legal aspects of being a radiographer to include patient confidentiality and informed consent
  • Describe barriers in communication and overcome these challenges to effectively communicate with patients, co-workers, physicians and hospital staff
  • Utilize proper body mechanics while performing the job duties of a radiographer
  • Identify and respond to medical emergencies
  • Discuss the various modes of disease transmission

Speaker Bio

Catherine M. Cooper, M.S., R.T. (R)(CT)(BD)

Catherine Cooper is currently a Senior Instructor and Clinical Coordinator for the radiography program at the University of South Alabama in Mobile.  Her professional interests are bridging the gap between radiographers and students to create a desirable learning environment for everyone.  She utilizes a variety of teaching strategies to provide radiography students the skills and knowledge to utilize best practices in the clinical setting.  Mrs. Cooper earned her Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences and her Master of Science in Instructional Design and Development from the University of South Alabama.  She has over 30 years of imaging experience, including 20 years teaching a variety of radiography courses to include patient care, procedures, radiographic pathology and computed tomography.  She is active in the Alabama Society of Radiologic Technologists, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and has provided lectures at state, regional, and national conferences.
